We all have our cleaning routines, our systems for
how we make our way through weekly home upkeep. Then there is the once in a
while cleaning: the tops of bookshelves, the windows, the refrigerator drawer.
How often do you actually clean your mattress? You spend
about one third of your life in bed, shouldn’t that mattress get a little
attention?
This video is a step-by-step guide to cleaning your
mattress and keeping it clean. First off, did you know that the average person
pours out about a half pint of perspiration… every night? We’re not sure we
needed to know that, but now that we do, we’re inspired to make sure that our
mattress gets really clean! Your mattress probably also has dirt, dust, and
dust mites in it.
The first step is to vacuum your mattress with a
clean upholstery attachment. To really do the job right, sift baking soda over
the entire mattress and leave it for a half hour, then vacuum up all the baking
soda. If you like, you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to
the baking soda before you sift it. It will gently scent your dreams for a few
days, an easy aromatherapy.
You should rotate or flip your mattress at the
beginning of every season for more even wear. You should avoid getting your
mattress wet at all, especially if it’s memory foam, because foam just retains
the moisture.
This video has some awesome tips for stain removal.
You should really watch to get the full scoop! And the big tip from the video
is kind of a no-brainer: get a mattress protector! The best way to keep your
mattress clean is not to get it dirty!
Honestly, there’s nothing more delicious than
climbing into a cozy bed at the end of the night. The fact that you’ll sleep
easier knowing that it’s deep down clean just sweetens the deal.
